If you know the importance of including a serving of protien in your diet, but are getting tired of the same foods, then this recipe for turkey patties may be for you

Small, regular servings of protien are important for stabilising blood sugar levels, hormone balance and satiety so we don't get those cravings for sweets, refined carbs and caffeine at the end of the day.

Why use turkey mince?

Protein can be either from an animal source or a plant source - you will see benefits fom both. It is a good idea to get a balance of both in your diet as variety is key! These meat patties are super easy to make, plus turkey mince is fairly cheap compared to beef mince and is available in most supermarkets

How to make them

I like to make up a huge batch and store in the freezer so I always have a good source of protein on hand, you can roll them out into a 'ball' or flatten them into a ‘pattie’ this way they will take less time to thaw out and faster to cook. If you have never cooked with Turkey mince before, it is very similar to beef or chicken mince, but is very moist you will not need to add anything to the mince to bind them together - which is great for people who are intolerant to eggs. If you can have eggs, then add them in as eggs are a nutritional power house icontaining vitamins, A, D, Choline and omega 3 - important for brain health and eye health

How can I serve them to be part of a balanced meal?

Serve your turkey patties with a huge helping of salad greens, some brown rice and a drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and lemon juice for a balanced meal. Or, reheat 2 or 3 and dip them into some homemade tahini dressing for a nutritious afternoon snack

Ingredients

  • 500gms turkey mince

  • 1tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Coconut oil or your fat of choice

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients into a bowl. Use your hands to mix well.

  2. Shape 2tbs of mince into a patty and set aside.

  3. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes if time permits.

  4. Heat a tbsp of coconut oil in a frypan and cook patties until cooked through

  5. Serve with brown rice and salad

Tips

Placing the patties in the fridge before cooking will help to hold shape.

You can freeze the patties uncooked for another day by laying them flat in a container.
