Just like you, I am a busy mum who needs to fuel my body regularly to get me through the day. Eating regularly is one piece of the puzzle, but eating the right foods for energy production is another. There are certain foods that can give you more energy than others. Here are my favourites

Sweet Potatoes

One of my chosen complex carbs would have to be sweet potatoes. They keep me full and give me the sustainable energy that I need especially when paired with a huge salad and grilled chicken. You can easily roast a few diced sweet potatoes in advance and store them in the fridge ready to add to breakfast omelets or salads.

Buckwheat Pasta

Another one of my favourite complex carbs is buckwheat pasta. Buckwheat is technically a seed, naturally gluten-free and easy to cook. Buckwheat pasta can be found in most supermarkets and can be boiled in water just like regular wheat pasta. Just choose a brand that is 100% buckwheat without any other ingredients. I enjoy mine with a homemade bolognese sauce with a sneaky spoonful of Beef Liver Powder

Collagen protein

There are so many collagen protein powders on the market. My favourite would have to be Collagen Beauty by Nutra Organics. It is dairy-free and gluten-free and whenever I add this to my smoothie, I get loads more energy as well as the skin-boosting benefits. When choosing a protein powder, make sure it is a trusted brand with no additives or fillers.

Chia pudding

Chia pudding has so many health benefits. This is my go-to breakfast every day as it is super easy to make ahead of time. Chia pudding is high in good fats from coconut milk which will keep you full and give you plenty of sustained energy. The chia seeds also help keep your bowels regular which is important for keeping your energy levels up and digestion moving.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is a herb originating from India and is used for regulating hormones, boosting the immune system, relieving stress and increasing energy production. Ashwagandha can be found in powdered or capsule form. The powder can be added to smoothies and can provide a noticeable burst of energy.

Bone Broth

You might want to reach for that afternoon coffee - but hold up! Why not try a cup of bone broth instead? It’s super easy to make and can be flavoured to your liking. I prefer chicken broth over beef as it has a milder flavour. Bone broth contains many minerals which have been extracted from the meat, joint tissues and bones during the cooking process. Broth also contains collagen, glutamine and other amino acids which are really important for healing. After consuming a cup of warm broth, I always feel energized and clear-headed

Water

So not a food as such - but needed a mention. For many of us, it is hard to remember to drink enough water. Sometimes tiredness is caused by dehydration. If you find yourself feeling tired, ask yourself ‘how much water have I had today?’ If the answer is not enough, then sit yourself down and drink 2 glasses of water preferably at room temperature with a pinch of sea salt.

Eggs

Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse! They are a great source of protein and do not cause any surges in blood sugar levels. They contain many nutrients such as vitamin A, D, B2, B5, B12 and E which are crucial for energy production, and minerals such as iron, iodine, selenium, folate and phosphorus. Eggs and are a major source of choline, which is super important for our brain function and Lutein - an antioxidant protecting against cell damage. Eggs for breakfast will keep you sustained until lunch

Always choose eggs laid by pasture-raised chickens for maximum benefit, as many of the nutrients come from the grasses the chickens eat.

Blueberries

Blueberries have not been named a superfood for no reason! They are full of antioxidants and are a low sugar option so will not cause your blood sugar levels to crash making them a great snack option if you are craving something sweet. Eat them fresh or frozen, in smoothies, baking or on their own. Choose organic if possible as berries of all kinds are heavily sprayed
