Setting Goals for Health and Wellness

Did you set yourself some health or wellness goals at the beginning of this year? And have you gone back to review them to make sure you are on track to actually achieve them? If so, that’s awesome, if not - then that is ok. Today is the best time to review (or make) them!

Only 1% of the population actually write down and review their goals regularly.

And of these people, they are the highest achievers and report higher satisfaction in their personal and professional life.

As we are halfway through the year, it is also a great time to set some new goals. Think about health goals, personal goals, family goals, financial goals and business or career goals.

Setting goals will help you get to where you want to be improving your overall satisfaction with your life, thus improving your overall health and well-being. Setting goals also gets us thinking about the HOW - it's fine to say I want to lose 5 kgs, but how are you actually going to do that? Are you going to work towards that goal by cutting out processed foods or taking a 30 minute walk every day?

There are many ways you can creatively set goals. Choose one or a combination of the following methods

1.Vision boards

Cut out some pictures from magazines or print from online, of things that represent what you want in life. This can also include words such as ‘Freedom’ ‘Wealth’ ‘Energy’ or ‘Calm’ Paste the images on a board and display them somewhere they can be seen every day. Vision boards are a powerful tool through the law of attraction and are a visual guide to look at your dreams and goals every day.

You could also create an electronic vision board using Pinterest or create a collage and save it to your desktop background or mobile phone background. 

2. Notebook

Grab a notebook and use the first page to write down some goals for the next six to twelve months. Then use the following pages to break it down into months. Write the current month on the top of the page and refer back to your yearly goals and set which ones you would like to work towards that month. You should repeat this monthly. Make it a ritual by setting a date in your diary. This will help you commit to reviewing your yearly goals regularly.

3. Done for your workbooks.

There is a range of goal workbooks now on the market that can be purchased in hard copy or printable versions. These are great as they can guide you in making those goals, especially if you are feeling stuck and unsure of what you really want. My favorite workbook is the My Brilliant Year life and biz workbook by Leonie Dawson. I have been using these workbooks since 2017! There is a life version and a business version for those who are entrepreneurs. 

The life workbook covers many aspects of your life including health, self-care, creativity, finances, family and relationships and so much more. My favorite part of the workbook is the ‘100 things to do list’ which is a cumulation of everything you wish to do over the year. It could be the smallest or largest things like ’start yoga’ or ‘take my kids to the Christmas carols’. The My Brilliant Year workbooks also include a ‘closing ceremony’ which gives you an opportunity to review the previous year. Of course, these books do not need to be started at the beginning of the year, they now come in a printable un-dated version so you can print additional pages as you need! I keep mine in this binder I bought from Officeworks

And my final tip for achieving goals is to surround yourself with like-minded people. They say you are the average of the 5 people you are around the most. So encourage your close friends and family to set their own goals by sharing this post!
